RIP - Robert Anton Wilson
posted by Markus on Sunday January 14, @07:27AM ( Printer Friendly Version. | Email this article )
News I only just picked this up - Robert Anton Wilson, co-author of the Illuminatus Trilogy, the Schroedinger's Cat Trilogy, and loads of other books very much worth reading has died on Thursday, January 11.
Our thoughts go out to his family and the friends he leaves behind. Personally I am shocked and saddened - RA Wilson was one of my guiding lights. May he rest in Peace - he now knows which post-death theory/belief is correct.

Life imitating Art? - US 'Nazi guard' faces deportation
posted by Markus on Saturday December 23, @01:26PM ( Printer Friendly Version. | Email this article )
News Actually, no, it's slightly different, but the following news still struck a note:
An 85-year-old man accused of having been a guard at a Nazi death camp has lost an appeal against his deportation from the US to his native Ukraine.
John Demjanjuk, who was ordered to be deported a year ago, can still make a further appeal against this ruling.
He has denied the allegations and his lawyers argued he would be tortured if sent back to Ukraine.
Mr Demjanjuk migrated to the US in 1951 and was briefly deported to Israel amid a 30-year legal battle over his past.
At the time, he was suspected of having been a notorious concentration camp guard, known by the nickname "Ivan the Terrible".

The story of John "Ivan the Terrible' Demjanjuk is one of the main background threads in Robert J Sawyer's Frameshift - follow the link for the book review.
