Convoy (Eastercon 2007) cancelled

The committee of the 2007 Eastercon regrets to announce that Convoy cannot now be held at the Adelphi, and that membership fees will be reimbursed by the beginning of December 2006 to those who had joined the convention.

Fannish Activity Novacon, the annual science fiction convention of the Birmingham SF Group, will take place on November 10-12 this year at the Quality Hotel, Bentley, Walsall.

Fantasy Sectus 2007 writes "Sectus 2007 is an unofficial Harry Potter conference being held in London from 19-22 July 2007.

This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Harry Potter books in the country where it all began. Sectus will be held in the heart of the capital, close to Regent's Park and within easy walking distance of Oxford Circus, Madame Tussaud's and King's Cross.

Fannish Activity amazing maize mazeFrom Articulate: The elaborate universe of Star Trek can be baffling to non-fans, but now there's a whole new way to get lost in space.

Star Trek fan Tom Pearcy has planted 1.5 million maize plants to cut the maze, which features images of Mr Spock, the USS Enterprise and what looks like Captain Jean-Luc Picard and a Borg cube.

Pearcy says he has been thinking about a space-themed maze for some time.

"I am a big fan of Star Trek, and the 40th anniversary gave me the inspiration to use some instantly recognisable images in the design."

We say: The York Maze made from maize - truly amazing!

This year's London Book Fair in March was host to an event which would have been considered science fiction just 20 years ago. Margaret Atwood, previous winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award for best science fiction novel, launched her long-distance book-signing machine, the LongPen, at the Fair.

Art As part of the Redbridge Book & Media Festival, this exhibition is a unique chance to see the creative artwork of Les Edwards (also known as 'Edward Miller'). Les, who lives in Ilford, is best known for his illustration of a huge number of book jackets in the Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror genres. He has worked on movie posters, fantasy games and graphic novels and has won the British Fantasy Award for Best Artist.

Sound Manager Paul Deeley's script for the penultimate episode of series five "Mostly Harmless" has been signed and dated by Producer / Script Adapter Dirk Maggs and is offered for sale with no reserve, ending 15th Feb around 6.30pm.
