"DiverseBooks has started publishing computer book reviews. As with
our fiction reviews we are taking the liberty of asking experts to do
reviews without payment. By donating a review you will be helping to
create a new resource for people like yourself.
When writing the review consider it as a little advert for yourself.
This might generate more journalistic work, or computing contracts!

Reviews by the numbers for people who aren't sure what to put in their
reviews:
- Price, availability, publisher, number of pages, format
- What topics does the book cover? Has it missed any important ones
out?
- Do you need to have learnt anything else before this book. Is it a
beginners book, intermediate? for experts? a reference or tutorial?
- Set this book in context. What is the history of this writer or
publisher? Have you read other books in the series?
- Chapter headings and description of chapters
- Did you like the book? Why? Why not?
- Would you recommend reading it or buying it?
- What other similar books are available? How do they compare?
- Is this book unique? Does it contain information not available
elsewhere? (eg online)
- A review under 500 words will get frowned at. A review of a 1000
words will get a smile
- If possible please send a printout of your review back to the
publicity person who sent us the book in the first place. Talk to us if
you are able to do this.
The Buck Doesn't Stop Here:
Even if you have written and submitted a book review there is still much more you can help with. We need to put the review on the website in simple html. There is a standard we use to include a picture at the top and links to Computer Manuals bookshop. Every month we need to print out the book reviews and send them to the publisher or distributer who sent us the book. This is vital to keep getting review copies.
EVERYONE can do a bit of advertising. Please mention us in email and newsgroup signatures. We can create links which search for your name and your articles. If you see web sites about a particular computing topic then email their webmasters with URLs to our book reviews in that topic.
Once we have a larger base of regular reviewers we will look at marketing our reviewers to other paying publishers. Please contact me if you are interested in this.
Reviewers will be put on a low volume mailing list soley for DiverseBooks announcements - such as what new books we have in for review. Estimated traffic 2 messages per month.
