  PRESS RELEASE: 2005 BSFA Awards announced

Awards The results of the 2005 British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) awards were announced on 15 April 2006. The awards were presented during Concussion, the British national science fiction convention (aka Eastercon), at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

BEST NOVEL: _Air_ by Geoff Ryman (Gollancz)
BEST SHORT FICTION: 'Magic for Beginners' by Kelly Link
BEST ARTWORK: Cover of _Interzone_ #200 by Pawel Lewandowski
NON-FICTION: _Soundings: Reviews 1992-1996_ by Gary K Wolfe (Beccon Publications)


The results of the 2005 British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) awards were announced on 15 April 2006. The awards were presented during Concussion, the British national science fiction convention (aka Eastercon), at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

The awards were made to:

BEST NOVEL:

_Air_ by Geoff Ryman (Gollancz)

The award was presented to Geoff by M John Harrison (guest of honour at the convention).

BEST SHORT FICTION:

'Magic for Beginners' by Kelly Link (_F&SF_; also in _Magic for Beginners_, Small Beer Press)

The award was presented by Stephen Baxter, who is also the Vice- President of the BSFA, and was accepted by Niall Harrison.

BEST ARTWORK:

Cover of _Interzone_ #200 by Pawel Lewandowski

The award was presented by Anne Sudworth to Jetse de Vries on behalf of _Interzone_.

NON-FICTION:

_Soundings: Reviews 1992-1996_ by Gary K Wolfe (Beccon Publications)

The award was accepted by Roger Robinson of Beccon and was presented by John Clute, who also read a statement from the judges for this category which announced a wider list of recommended works.

The BSFA would like to extend its congratulations to all the winners and to all those shortlisted for the awards.

The shortlists for the three popular vote awards were compiled from nominations submitted by members of the BSFA; BSFA members and attending members of the convention were eligible to vote for the final awards.

A separate press release is being issued in parallel with more information about the non-fiction award, including the recommended reading list and the judges' statement.

The current BSFA awards administrator, Claire Brialey, is stepping down after three years; the new awards administrator will be Ian Snell. The BSFA will make an announcement shortly about the opening of nominations for the 2006 awards. In the interim, any enquiries about the BSFA awards should be directed to bsfamail@gmail.com
